Bazelfangs

Bazelfangs are similar to a wolf but are around eight feet in height and walk on their hind legs. They have saliva dripping fangs and are extremely ferocious.

Ignatia Birds

The ignatia birds are quite large probably similar to a phoenix, they have fiery red feathers which possess healing powers. When placed upon wounds they will be cured without leaving scarring of any kind. They can talk and are often used to take messages from one settlement to another. The main ignatia bird character in these books is Ezra.

Yarkas

Yarkas are despicable dim-witted creatures; they originally come from the swamps in Foley, a place in the far north of Xenitha. They have no morals, and care about nothing, not even their own kin. The only thing that yarkas are any good at apart from treachery is that they are rather talented bowmen.”

Gillyweasels

Gillyweasels are very small creatures which have over-large heads, bat-like ears, and very large eyes, which give them the appearance of always being in total fear. They walk upright on two legs which are very thin, as are their arms, and they also have long thin tails, similar to a rat’s.
Their skin is a sort of taupe colour and they have long hair which is so fine that you can see their scalps through it. The male and female look so alike it is difficult to tell them apart, apart from the fact that the male gillyweasels wear ragged ill-made trousers and tops, and the female wear equally ragged dresses. They have claws on their hands and feet for digging as they live in underground burrows. The main gillyweasel character in these books is Zale

Kibblekytes

Kibblekytes look like seahorses except with legs, and have large dragon-like wings where the fins would have been. They are golden brown in colour and are the size of shire horses, but at the same time they look gentle and friendly, with a majestic look about them and are as graceful in the air as on land.
These magnificent beasts have an amazing ability; they can multiply by dividing themselves into two, thereby giving twice as many kibblekytes when the need arises. When they are double up and become tired they turn from their golden brown colour to reddish brown, which is a warning that they can not stay doubled up for much longer. Also when they are doubled up they have to stay close together and if one is killed, they will both die—the original and its second. As soon as their services are no longer require they merge back together, becoming one again. The main kibblekyte characters in these books are Kina and Kara.

Xenitha: The Final Outcome
is finally out and this time it has been published in paperback making it a lot more affordable than the first two books. I just bought a copy from The Book Depository for £6.61 for a friend who does not use the computer and it arrived in less than a week.

My friend Bella, has just told me that her son took my first book Xenitha to school and his teacher asked if he could borrow it. He loved it and so did his 12yr old daughter. Now the school is buying 3 copies. How cool is that?
Also Bella gave a copy to her daughter’s school. I know this is not a lot but it is a start :o)

this is the 2nd out of the trilogy and when i started i was thinking i bet its no way as good as the 1st book, HOW WRONG I WAS!!!!!!!!

back to xenitha was just as exciting and full of highs and lows,and the adventure is wow another good read,the kids 3 and 12 were engrossed right from page 1,

a MUST read for anyage,cant wait for the last book,

The story was brilliant, the plot was fun and the character’s were brought to life. The gillyweasels were my favourites and ,you can imagine what they all would look like in real life. It was very gripping from start to finish. Just from the first couple of chapters, I knew that I was going to be hooked and boy was I?! (just as my poor other half knew, who had to sleep with the light on as I couldn’t put it down)!

My kids aged 3 and 12 enjoyed me reading this to them, so as for age group recommendations for this brilliant book, I’d say anything from 8 till 100. It’s a brilliant book to read and I promise you won’t get a better adventure than this. I so wanted to be there in the group, but am unsure if I could do as well as them.

I will definitely recommend this book to everyone I know. I even had a cry at the end! I’m now going to look out for the 2nd book as soon as I can. I’m also off to make gillyweasel cookies (don’t ask!) for my children, as they want them so much. In summary – wow, get reading it now!

Book Review for Xenitha by Yasmin Chaudhari

Age 14

My Favourite Part:

I thought that the plot of the story was very interesting and personally I enjoy adventure stories such as this one. I think that the idea of a quest seemed to attract me to this book when I first looked at the book. I think that the first chapter was the most moving and hooked me into wanting to read more of the book. However I think that the way in which a lot had happened in the first chapter - felt a bit too fast!

Recommended Age Group:

Although I enjoyed reading the book, I would however, recommend this book to a slightly lower age group, ranging from about 10 years to about 12 years, as they would enjoy reading about fantasy worlds and adventures.

Visual Side:

Considering the age group I have mentioned above, I think illustrations and other complimentary art work would capture the imagination of the audience for this book, also giving a picture to the many magnificent scenes that are detailed throughout the story would captivate interest.

Overall:

The story was very catchy and I have enjoyed reading this book.

Xenitha is overall a pretty good story with a fairly strong plot and good description.

There are many lovable characters but personally, as a child, I think I would have preferred the book if the grandfather was not in the story so much. Maybe, he could have had the shop and while Ethan and Abigail are exploring they come across the writing on the table - because like Harry Potter, the main characters, if aimed at children, should pretty much be children/ teenagers, because more could have happened without him there. For example, Ethan could have expressed he liked Abbie as more than a friend (a good story has comedy + adventure + romance + tragedy).

Some of the characters are similar to some in Harry Potter. For example, kibblekytes remind me of hippogriffs and the gillyweasels are a bit like elves. However, pretty much all the characters have strong, unique personalities.

On the contrary, the characters are not memorable, even if they are enchanting, and I had, at parts, trouble remembering who was who.

In my opinion, you have named too many characters. For instance, Antwan did not need to be identified as Antwan: he could easily have just been known as a resident of Glaxton or such.

The plot is very strong and quite gripping however the writing style is slightly weak and jerky. Personally, I think there is too much dialogue in comparison to other books which have more description/ action rather than the action being conveyed through speech.

It is, however, very gracefully written as not to frighten the younger audience yet keep then enthralled all the way through.

Xenitha is a charming book, written by an aspiring author, whom one day, I am sure will be right up there amongst Rowling and Morpurgo, and I look forward to purchasing the second book of the series.

Athough this book was written for children, it is also adult reading. As friends and family have enjoyed reading it too, and are looking forward to the follow up of the second book. It is an adventurous story filled with whimsical creatures and a frightening sorceress.

For a new author this book has a good story line, and the description of the creatures make them sound realistic. Although there is a lot of action it has been tastefully written, which would not scare a younger reader.

I hope this author has a lot of success with her books and that the next one won't be too long following.

I was wondering if readers of fantasy stories prefer books with traditional creatures e.g. unicorns, griffins, fairies, hobgoblins, giants and ogres etc., or do they enjoy a book with newly invented creatures?
